And people start to arrange “Obi” (wide belt to fixe kimono having around waist) and accessories to put their passion.
Originally, Kosode was usual Kimono but in Edo period it is acceptable as a formal Kimono. And as women’s Kimono changed more decorative, height of the sleeve became longer as dancers used as a part of their expression. This is also made a vogue between young girls. After age, even boys used long height of the sleeve kimono until 15 years old.As mentioning, Kimono changes depends on the vogue and period as a part of Japanese life.

Types of Kimono

Kimono can be classified with so many category and types depends on its function, age, season, etc. A person’s taste basically appears on the combination of Kimono and Obi. I’d like to introduce one of them of actual Kimono.

Hurisode

Single woman around 18 to 30 uses this kimono. This type is mostly uses for graduation, coming-of-age ceremony.

Hurisode is not possible to wear so long time so it will passed down to the daughter in some cases.

As younger age use Hurisode so it patterns are more brilliant and showy. It says the longer height of the sleeve kimono is more meter.

Obi also (wide belt to fixe kimono having around waist) prepare as showy and large style. Recently, there is new way, which is more showy way to tie Obi.

If it is a favorite Kimono, people cut the height of the sleeve of Hurisode and rearrange it as Homongi.

Homongi Yukata

This is a type of kimono which is able to use for any position of people (married or single, does not matter). It is little more simplified from Tomesode. Homongi has brilliant image and good for any formal situation.

Actually, it wear for summer festivals and events and sometimes room clothes in Japanese style hotel.

This is the most casual and simple Kimono for summer season.

Originally it was used
for bath wear.

It has a figure from the top to the bottom. Even the cut edge of cloth are fit the patterns.

Homongi is easy to arrange from everyday use to formal style by changing arrangement.

Montsuki-hakama Shiromuku

This is a most formal wear for man. It is separated with upper and bottom part.

Originally, Shiromuku was for marriage, childbirth, funeral, shroud, and Seppuku (Harakiri) case.

Shiromuku is a wedding dress. This is a one of the most formal kimono as same as Montsuki-hakama.

Inside and outside are made with white cloth as white was a holy color.

The upper part has a crest of each family.

This is able to wear for every formal occasion.

Kimono for children and 753

There is a festival (on November 15th) for children of three, five and seven years of age calls “753” (originally it writes in Japanese symbols, not by Arabic numbers).
The 3 years old festival children start to get grow their hair.
The 5 years old festival boys put the first Hakama of Kimono. And the 7 years old, girl uses Obi insteat of other thin string.
Parents will satisfy and enjoy their children growth.
For children they also enjoy but it is only in the beginning. Unusual sandals and Obi which tied, will be get tired soon.

How to put Kimono?

There are few people are able to put Hurisode by themselves as Hurisode has few chances to put before to learn how.
In many cases, people make a reservation for Hurisode preparation to beauty parlor where has service to put kimono in one place.

There is a “tsukeobi” which is easy adjustment Obi which is made by two parts such as belt part and prepared band Obi with a clip.
This type is easy to wear and it does not deform when you are wearing.
There is some people remake a normal Obi to easy Obi.
